At present we are witnessing a renewed interest in the use of nuclear energy worldwide, head of the analytical department of Energocapital (Russia) Alexander Ignatyuk told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“Statistics of energy consumption in 2013 is not available yet. The figures will still reflect the reduction in nuclear energy use in the wake of the Fukushima accident in Japan. Nevertheless, we can already say that the interest in nuclear energy is increasing again, in particular, on the part of major consumers like the United States, China and India. It is worth mentioning that Japanese reactors still stand idle, although in 2010 Japan generated more than 10% of the world’s nuclear energy. Thus, if we exclude Japan from the statistics, we will observe a steady increase in the use of nuclear capacities,” the expert believes.
In 2013 the production of nuclear energy worldwide rose 0.5% compared to 2012 to make up 65.5 billion MWh (562.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent), reads a report presented by BP at the 21st World Oil Congress in Moscow, information agencies informed. BP pointed out that the electricity production at nuclear power stations increased for the first time after the Fukushima accident.
