New NPP will help Finland to retain key competitive advantages
16.09.2014
Finland’s decision not to drop its plans to build a new NPP means that the Finns support the project despite continuing sanctions against Russia, Dmitry Kumanovsky, the head of the Analytical Department at the LMS Investment Company (Russia), told media, BelTA informs.
"They realize that politics keep changing, while nuclear projects are continuous as they are tailored to long-term economic needs and lay foundations for many-year partnerships", expert noted.
"A new NPP will help the Finns to retain their key competitive advantages, one of them being cheap electric power. Now that their telecoms and electronic industries are having hard times due to declining production and the sale of Nokia to Microsoft, they realize the need to make their mining and woodworking sectors even more competitive due to low costs. They have built their partnership with Rosatom for years and have had enough time to see that our projects are safe. Rosatom’s project is good for them and if they reject it, they will face serious reputational and economic consequences", he stressed.
