Energy minister dwells on possible construction of second NPP in Belarus

MOSCOW, 4 June (BelTA) - The possibility of building a second nuclear power plant in Belarus is under consideration, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media, BelTA has learned.
“These issues are under consideration. A lot of work is underway to consider many aspects: technological, environmental, economic ones. We are also studying these issues together with our Russian colleagues,” the minister said.
“The corresponding working group has been set up in Belarus to involve a large list of government agencies, specialized organizations and the National Academy of Sciences,” Viktor Karankevich added.
The Belarusian energy minister took part in a meeting of the Commission on Energy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 4 June. The meeting highlighted issues related to the progress made in the implementation of the comprehensive program of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in nuclear non-energy and non-nuclear projects, as well as the issues of ensuring reliable and safe operation of nuclear energy facilities in the Union State.
