Belarus calls for improving effectiveness of multilateral energy cooperation

Belarus calls for improving the effectiveness of multilateral energy cooperation, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The matter was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin Rybakov and representative of the Chief Executive of the Secretary-General’s initiative “Sustainable Energy for All” Minoru Takada in New York on 30 July.
The parties discussed the results of the ministerial dialogue on energy issues held in May 2015 where Valentin Rybakov acted as one of its key participants. The Belarusian diplomat reminded the participants of the meeting about the proposals of Belarus aimed at improving the effectiveness of multilateral energy cooperation. This could be achieved through a comprehensive UN energy agenda as a single platform to discuss all relevant energy issues with the leading role of the Organization’s member states. Given the importance of access of all interested countries to advanced energy technologies, Valentin Rybakov proposed to envisage specific discussion on this topic during one of the energy-related high-profile events organized by the UN Secretariat.
Minoru Takada thanked Belarus for its active stance on energy in the United Nations. He also briefed on the implementation of the “Sustainable Energy for All” initiative in the areas of ensuring universal access to modern energy services, raising energy efficiency and increasing the share of renewable energy sources.
The parties agreed to actively cooperate in resolving energy issues for the benefit of global sustainable development.
