Belarus and the Czech Republic are interested in increasing the number of projects in the energy sector with a view to advancing the joint product onto third markets. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Belarusian-Czech working group on cooperation in energy, which is underway in Prague from 29 November to 1 December, BelTA learned from the website of the Energy Ministry.
The meeting discussed possible ways of intensifying bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including in trade, economic and investment areas. Participants made brief presentations of their companies, outlining the key interests and lines of business, shared opinions on the modernization of energy facilities, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy resources.
The parties expressed interest in increasing the number of bilateral projects with the aim of further advancement of the joint product to the markets of third countries. A potential for further expansion of mutually beneficial relations in a number of promising areas was noted as well. The agreements reached at the meeting were included into the final protocol which was signed by the co-chairs of the working group.
Among the most significant projects of Belarus and the Czech Republic in the energy sector is the participation of Czech's Mavel in the implementation of a number of hydroelectric projects of the Belarusian energy system (Polotskaya Hydro Power Plant, Grodno Hydro Power Plant), the construction of a workshop to process peat and produce peat substrates at the Glinka Peat Company.
Attending the talks and working meetings were representatives of the Energy Ministry of Belarus, Beltopgaz, Belenergo, Belneftekhim Concern, Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant, Belgazstroy, and Beltruboprovodstroy.
The Belarusian-Czech working group on cooperation in the energy sector was set up in 2009. The group considers issues related to the cooperation in the energy sector, including the installation of gas services, hydraulic power industry, peat industry, gas transportation and storing. The group meets twice a year.
