OSTROVETS DISTRICT, 21 February (BelTA) – The main construction and installation operations, startup and commissioning operations will have to be completed in 2018 in addition to delivering nuclear fuel. Belarusian Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik gave the relevant instructions during the session of the ministry’s board on 21 February, BelTA has learned.
The official said: “The year 2018 will be crucial for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Heads of companies taking part in the construction of the nuclear power plant will bear personal responsibility for fulfilling the work schedule. In order to commission the first unit of the nuclear power plant in December 2019, this year we have to complete the main construction and installation operations, startup and commissioning operations, bring in nuclear fuel, and get ready for the reactor startup in Q1 2019.”
The energy minister also gave instructions to step up the development of regulatory documents and technical documents concerning the operation of the nuclear power plant.
Fixed-capital investments in the Belarusian nuclear power plant totaled Br1.7 billion in 2017.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
