Crisis response centers practice working together to contain accident at Belarusian nuclear power plant

02.10.2018
Belarusian nuclear energy industry crisis response center practiced working together to contain an accident situation at the nuclear power plant, representatives of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) told BelTA.

Working groups of Gosatomnadzor’s information and analysis center practiced responding to an accident situation. The working groups worked with each other in the course of the exercise. Gosatomnadzor’s information and analysis center also worked with crisis response centers of other government agencies (the Energy Ministry, the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry, the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, and the national center for managing and responding to emergencies of the Emergencies Ministry) to practice responding to a nuclear power plant accident.

Results of the exercise will be used to further improve Gosatomnadzor’s information and analysis center as part of the network of Belarusian nuclear industry crisis response centers.

The concept for creating a system of crisis response centers in Belarus was adopted by the government in June 2016. The purpose of the work is to set up interacting crisis response centers, which will be able to take effective, reliable, and timely measures to prevent and alleviate consequences of nuclear or radiation accidents at all stages of operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
