Emergencies Ministry prioritizes BelNPP safe operation, preventing loss of life in fires, drownings

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – In 2022 the Emergencies Ministry focused on preventing the loss of life in fires and drownings and ensuring safety at the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky at a session of the ministry's board.

According to Vadim Sinyavsky, in order to fulfill the head of state's instructions the Emergencies Ministry primarily focused on preventing fires and other emergencies. The prevention of the loss of life during emergencies was another important task. A lot of effort was poured into preventing deaths through drownings. Apart from that, the Emergencies Ministry paid due attention to safety measures during the commissioning of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant and during the operation of the nuclear power plant.

Vadim Sinyavsky underlined that the preventive measures allowed achieving positive dynamics in 2022. The number of deaths in fires dropped by 4.8% while the number of people, who drowned, went down by 19.4%.

The Emergencies Ministry board session took place at premises of the ministry's Civil Protection University. Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Rakhmanov took part in the session.
