MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry (Gosatomnadzor) will arrange a series of awareness-raising events that focus on the formation of the nuclear and radiation safety infrastructure, Gosatomnadzor representatives told BelTA.
Gosatomnadzor specialists will talk about state oversight in the run-up to the commercial operation of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The system of regulatory acts in the area of nuclear and radiation safety will be highlighted as well as the system's evolution. Gosatomnadzor will also draw attention to state regulations on the nuclear security, record-keeping and control of nuclear materials.
Apart from that, Gosatomnadzor will present general information about events that may happen at a nuclear power plant such as types of possible events, possible responses to such events, the licensing of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, state regulation and oversight over the safe handling of radioactive waste in Belarus, and the law on radiation safety.
Most of the events will be hosted by BelTA. The series of events will begin with a media briefing on international approaches to forming the nuclear and radiation safety infrastructure and their implementation in Belarus on 27 January.
