Hungary interested in Belarusian nuclear power plant construction experience

18.12.2018
Hungarian nuclear industry specialists are interested in Belarus’ experience of building a nuclear power plant. The matter was discussed as a delegation of the Hungarian Nuclear Forum visited the Belarusian nuclear power plant, representatives of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

The Hungarian specialists were made familiar with progress in building the Belarusian nuclear power plant with VVER-1200 reactors. They learned about the experience of Belarusian colleagues, which will help Hungarian companies build two units of the nuclear power plant Paks 2. In particular, the sides discussed safety, work with blueprints, and relations between the nuclear power plant operating enterprise and municipal government agencies and public organizations.

The Hungarian delegation was also made familiar with the education and training center where specialists for the Belarusian nuclear power plant are trained. A full-scale replica of the nuclear power plant control room is at the heart of the center. The control room enables quality and effective training and refresher courses for all specialists of the future nuclear power plant starting with simple operators and ending with the director general of the enterprise in charge of running the nuclear power plant.

The association Hungarian Nuclear Forum unites 50 Hungarian nuclear industry companies.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using a Russian design featuring VVER-1200 reactors near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
