The International Atomic Energy Agency will open a special training center for rapid response to emergencies at nuclear power plants in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, representatives of the prefecture administration told media on 22 May.
The center will host four-day training sessions for trainees from Japan and foreign specialists three times a year. The first emergency response training session will take place next week and will gather 40 people from 18 countries.
During the exercise IAEA specialists will arrange an instruction session into measuring radiation levels around the nuclear power plant Fukushima 1 and into collecting and analyzing soil near the power plant.
According to Fukushima Prefecture Governor Yuhei Sato, the center will make a serious contribution to the advancement of cooperation between Fukushima Prefecture and the IAEA.
