Russia remains a leader in nuclear technology, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy Director General for Development and International Business of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, told reporters at the 7th international forum Atomexpo 2015 in Moscow on 1 June, BelTA has learned.
“Nuclear energy is vigorously developing on the global level. Sixty-seven new nuclear power units are being built all over the world. Meanwhile, Rosatom is still number one in the world for the construction of nuclear power plants. Russia is currently building nine new power units in the country; 29 power units are being built in other countries using Russian designs. Therefore, Rosatom is in charge of building 38 power units. This is the biggest figure in the world,” Kirill Komarov stressed.
Russia is also a leader on the market of uranium enrichment services. The Russian Federation is one of top three producers of nuclear fuel. Apart from the traditional nuclear energy sector, Russia does its best to promote such new industries as nuclear medicine, sterilization of medical devices, the use of radiation technologies in agriculture.
Kirill Komarov remarked that the interest in the development of nuclear power is very strong. “Record-high participation in Atomexpo 2015 testifies to that. This year Moscow welcomed more than 1,600 delegates from 48 countries. The number of foreign companies partaking in the event is almost 2.5 times higher than the last year’s number,” he said.
