A roundtable session dedicated to nuclear power engineering and equipment for the nuclear energy industry will be held as part of the fifth international conference expo AtomExpo Belarus 2013. At the expo Russian mechanical engineering companies will present the latest technologies and achievements in the production of equipment for the nuclear power industry, BelTA learned from organizers of the event.
AtomExpo Belarus 2013 will take place on 2-4 April upon the initiative of the Belarusian Energy Ministry. It will feature the latest technologies used to design, build, operate and ensure the safety of nuclear power plants. BelTA has learned that an improved model of the main circulating pump will be one of the innovative products that the Russian mechanical engineering companies intend to put on display in Minsk. Among other things such pumps are supposed to make sure the heat transfer agent keeps flowing and the reactor is still cooled when a power outage occurs.
The conference expo AtomExpo Belarus 2013 will be held with assistance of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian state corporation Rosatom.
A Russian design has been chosen to build a nuclear power plant in Belarus. The design meets all the requirements of the national legislation and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Belarusian nuclear station’s design stems from the AES-2006 design developed by the Saint Petersburg-based institute Atomenergoproject. The AES-2006 design is used to build the second Leningrad nuclear power plant and the Baltic nuclear power plant. It is a three-plus generation design according to international classification.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity up to 2,400MW. The first one is scheduled to go online in 2018.
