Lithuania's attitude to Belarusian nuclear power plant slammed as ‘absolutely unacceptable'

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The matter of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has acquired an interpretation in Lithuania that is absolutely unacceptable for Belarus. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Who refused to buy cheaper electricity from Belarus? Lithuania did. The matter of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has acquired an absolutely unacceptable interpretation in Lithuania for us. The nuclear power plant is somehow viewed as a threat to Lithuania's national security. Even though Belarus works in compliance with all the international commitments and cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency and ENSREG. We get positive reports from them. A high degree of cooperation with Belarus and the observation of all the regulatory norms are mentioned.”

In his words, if foreign experts decide to do monitoring on a bilateral basis, Belarus will respond to such a request. “We will always respond unlike Lithuanian colleagues, who prefer not to react to our queries,” the prime minister added.
