Minister: Electricity consumption in Belarus is growing

31.10.2023

MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – In January-September 2023, electricity consumption in Belarus increased by 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours and amounted to 29.8 billion kilowatt-hours, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said as he briefed Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the completion of the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA has learned.

As the minister emphasized, the organizations affiliated with the Energy Ministry ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of energy to consumers. Fixed production assets are upgraded and measures to increase energy consumption are carried out on a systemic basis.

"Thanks to the stimulus measures taken by the head of state and the government, the electricity consumption in the country in January-September 2023 increased by 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours to total 29.8 billion kilowatt-hours. In general, the electricity demand is met from our own resources," Viktor Karankevich said.

According to him, the growth of electricity consumption was registered in the real sector of the economy (primarily manufacturing sector) and households. Electricity consumption is also increasing due to the use of electric boilers to supply heat in large communities instead of natural gas.
