MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – The number of electric vehicle charging stations operating in Belarus has exceeded 900, BelTA learned from Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich. The official met with young activists of the trade union of Belarusian energy, gas, and fuel industries Belenergotopgaz.

Viktor Karankevich said: “These are not only stations operated by the industrial group Belorusneft, which is the state operator in charge of setting up the network of EV charging stations. These are also stations run by other organizations, legal persons, which set up such facilities to serve their own needs among other things.”

The development of the charging infrastructure, stimulating measures adopted at the level of the head of state and the government contribute to the growing number of electric vehicles on Belarusian roads. The number of electrobuses used for public transportation is increasing. The volume of electricity consumed by EV charging stations is rising. In January-September 2023 it increased by 16% year-on-year, Viktor Karankevich stated.

On the whole, the minister described the dynamics of rising electricity consumption across the country as positive. In January-September 2023 the volume of electricity consumption totaled 29.8 billion kWh, 1.8 billion kWh up or 6.4% up from January-September 2022.
