MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – The aggregate output capacity of renewable energy sources has increased by 19 times since 2010, BelTA learned from Sergei Greben, Head of the Energy Effectiveness, Ecology, and Science Office of the Belarusian Energy Ministry, at a press conference held on 8 July to discuss the state and prospects of renewable sources of energy in Belarus.
The official noted that Belarusian renewable energy sources generated 1.243 billion kWh of electricity in 2020. Their output capacity has increased by 19 times since 2010 while the actual output has increased by 8.9 times. The renewable energy sources are operated by 278 legal persons and self-employed businessmen.
According to Sergei Greben, all the conditions for the development of renewable sources of energy have been enabled in Belarus. The work began back in 2010 with the adoption of the law on renewable sources of energy. The work goes fast even now. “Every country has its own vision regarding the development of renewable sources of energy. Ours is realized strictly in accordance with the energy security concept,” he said.
