Output capacity of renewable energy sources in Belarus nearly 14 times up over 13 years

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The total electricity generation capacity of Belarusian renewable energy sources increased by nearly 14 times over 13 years, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus, Director of the Energy Effectiveness Department Vitaly Kretsky during the conference held to review 30 years of effort to create an energy-effective country.

A significant amount of work has been done in Belarus to develop the renewable energy industry.

According to the source, as of 1 January 2023 the total electricity generation capacity of Belarusian renewable energy sources stood at 631.5MW, which is nearly 14 times up from 45MW in 2009. At present Belarus is home to 84 photovoltaic power plants with the output capacity of 272.7MW (43.2% of the total installed capacity of the installations that use renewable energy sources), 54 hydropower plants with the output capacity of 122MW (19.3%), 31 biogas complexes with the output capacity of 40.2MW (6.4%), 11 compact cogeneration plants powered by wooden fuel with the electricity output capacity of about 100.5MW (15.9%).
