Plans to install two electric boilers in Minsk Oblast ahead of nuclear power plant launch

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Work to install two water-heating electric boilers in Soligorsk in anticipation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant launch will be finished in October 2020, BelTA has learned.

The Minsk Oblast electric and heating company Minskenergo explained that the boilers will use electricity generated by the nuclear power plant during minimal power consumption periods (at night).

Contractors are working at premises of the Soligorsk compact cogeneration plant to build foundations for a process rack, build underground facilities, and the foundation for an accumulator tank. The project will result in a standalone building with two 10MW electric boilers inside coupled with an accumulator tank with the capacity of 1,500m3.

Electricity to the boilers will be fed by the 110kV power substation Dubeyi, which is being reconstructed. A 10kV power line will be laid across the territory of the Soligorsk compact cogeneration plant.

The installation of the electric boilers is part of the action plan on integrating the Belarusian nuclear power plant into the national power grid. The first project to install a 10MW electric boiler in a new boiler house in Kostyukovichi, Mogilev Oblast was implemented in 2019. Plans are in place to implement similar projects at 19 facilities to reach the total installed capacity of 836MW.
