Radiation monitoring near Belarusian NPP in focus of coordination meeting at IAEA

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation took part in a coordination meeting to discuss projects of the IAEA's international technical assistance for Belarus, BelTA learned from the National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control, and Environmental Monitoring at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus.

The coordination meeting was held at the IAEA Vienna Center.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Emergencies Ministry, the Energy Ministry and the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus. Taking part in the meeting was also Zoya Trafimchik, Deputy Head of the Service - Head of Radiation Monitoring Department of the Belarusian National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control, and Environmental Monitoring (Bedhygromet), who supervises the IAEA international technical assistance project “Improving radiation monitoring in the zone of influence of the Belarusian nuclear power plant”.

The parties discussed practical cooperation in the course of the project implementation, the terms of delivery of equipment and training of specialists and formats of the IAEA expert missions in Belarus to provide advisory assistance both in terms of modern equipment and radiation monitoring in the zone of influence of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The parties also discussed technical cooperation with the IAEA, taking into account the goals and objectives of the Framework Cooperation Program for 2022-2027 in terms of Belhydromet's project application to strengthen radiation monitoring and control in the context of emergency preparedness and response in connection with the upcoming launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
