Three Belarusian universities to join STAR-NET initiative

Three Belarusian universities plan to take part in the regional education and training network in nuclear technology STAR-NET, IAEA Technical Officer Vitaly Kolomiyets told media on 14 September, BelTA informs.
According to the representative of the agency, one of the cooperation aspects with Belarus and other countries that develop national nuclear power programs is assistance in developing a personnel training system. “It is not limited to workshops (interactive training) and trainings. Apart from that, we help develop programs to train various categories of the personnel, keep track of personnel licensing, promote technical training aids,” said Vitaly Kolomiyets.
In this respect there is a need for cooperation between the educational establishments at the regional level. “This week during the IAEA General Conference we are holding an event to form such a network of establishments of higher education. This network will include universities of six states: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Kazakhstan. Belarus will be represented by three universities,” said the IAEA representative.
The STAR-NET initiative will comprise 13 universities. The project will focus on the standardization of training programs for future engineers, recognition of diplomas, exchange of students and teachers and many more.
