The Belarusian nuclear power plant on display in Vienna during the IAEA General Conference
14.09.2015
The 59th session of the General Conference of the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will begin in Vienna on 14
September. About 3,000 delegates from all over the world will flock to
the Vienna International Center where the IAEA is headquartered in the
course of the next few days. Belarus always takes an active part in the
work of the General Conference, however, this time the country has
organized an exposition of its own to highlight progress in building the
Belarusian nuclear power plant. The effort is expected to bolster the
positive image of the project and will raise the awareness of the
international community about Belarus’ vigorous interaction with the
IAEA in the course of the project's implementation.
On the eve of the international forum BelTA took a sneak peek of the preparations to unveil the national exhibition stand.
The exhibition stand will inform visitors about the
main stages of the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant,
the current state of affairs at the construction site near Ostrovets,
plans for 2016, and the emerging manufacturing and social
infrastructure.
It is worth noting that Belarus is actually one of
the elite few nations (slightly more than ten in total) that have
prepared their exhibition stands for the opening of the General
Conference. In this regard Belarus stands alongside Russia, Canada,
France, Italy, and Korea.
Preparations were in full swing around the expositions of these countries and other ones one day ahead of the event’s launch.
It is interesting that the theme of the Belarusian
nuclear power plant is indirectly continued by the Russian stand, which
among other things features information about the management of the
lifecycle of nuclear power plants starting with the design phase, going
through construction and operation and ending with decommissioning. The
entire process can last for 100 years. It is the approach and standards
used by the Russian state nuclear engineering corporation Rosatom with
regard to the nuclear power plant near the Belarusian town of Ostrovets
at present and in the future.
On the whole, the stay of the Belarusian delegation
in Vienna during the days of the General Conference will be intense.
Belarus’ representatives will take part in the opening ceremony and
plenary sessions, elections to the IAEA Board of Governors, various
seminars and forums. Apart from that, bilateral meetings and
negotiations have been planned between Belarus and foreign colleagues.
