Belarus' scientists suggest using mobile nuclear installations

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarusian scientists suggest resuming the use of mobile nuclear installations, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov told reporters on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

“There is an idea to return to mobile nuclear reactors, mobile nuclear power plants. The documents have been preserved. A group has been put together to restore this unique invention. The Soviet Union was the first in the world to introduce mobile nuclear installations,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

According to him, the work will be carried out in collaboration with Russia's Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.

An office of the Kurchatov Institute opened at the premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in Minsk on 29 March. The office was opened during the Congress of Young Scientists of Belarus and Russia. The decision to hold the congress was made by the presidents of Belarus and Russia in December 2022. The congress is timed to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia.

The congress is attended by young researchers from research centers and higher learning institutions of the two countries. The Russian Federation is represented by the Kurchatov Institute and the Russian Academy of Sciences, including the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center and the Siberian and Far Eastern branches of the academy.

The plenary session “Young scientists: tasks and areas of cooperation for developing a common scientific and technological space between Belarus and Russia” was held on 29 March. Reports on priority directions of international scientific and technical cooperation between young scientists of the two countries were presented there.
