Belarusian, Russian academies of sciences to launch space satellite

scientists intend to launch an interacademy space satellite, BelTA
learned from Vladimir Gusakov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National
Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).
According to the source, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Fortov suggested creating an interacademy satellite during negotiations. It will be a joint satellite of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said Vladimir Gusakov.
The proposal was voiced on 15 September only, this is why there is no name yet. “But building the satellite is what matters,” said the official.
In turn, Vladimir Fortov explained that the Russian Academy of Sciences has the expertise and knows how to simplify and accelerate the process. So-called microsatellites do not require a dedicated booster rocket. In his words, they are inserted into orbit as panel load of the International Space Station (ISS) or by the rockets that shuttle back and forth. “We care about content instead of size. I think we will be able to do the work fast,” explained Vladimir Gusakov.
According to the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the production of such satellites is a global trend. Many academies across the globe indulge in the creation of such satellites for educational purposes because young talent can take part in such projects.
“The creation of the interacademy satellite represents a new stage of fundamental, theoretical and applied research. Apart from that, it contributes a lot to personnel training,” added Vladimir Gusakov. He stressed that at the same time Belarus does not abandon the plans to launch the next BelKA satellite.
