Belarusian scientists contribute a lot to the preservation of the common information field and the advancement of interaction between schools of thought in the post-Soviet space. The opinion was voiced by Vladimir Betekhtin, Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, professor of the Ioffe Institute (Saint Petersburg) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chairman of the interstate coordinating council for physics of strength and plasticity of materials, BelTA has learned. Vladimir Betekhtin took part in the international symposium on promising materials and technologies at premises of the Acoustic Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Vitebsk State Technical University on 28 May.
According to the scientist, the advancement of science as a whole is impossible without communication, without interaction between the schools of thought that have evolved over decades. Moreover, today a new constellation of young researchers has emerged. They will determine the country’s progress. The main purposes of the symposium include the preservation of ties, exchange of ideas and accomplishments, coordination of the work of research institutions, education institutions, and industrial enterprises, the formulation of materials science goals.
The forum is scheduled to end on 29 May. It has gathered over 130 scientists from ten countries, including ten academicians and corresponding members of academies, over 50 doctors of science and candidates of science. Participants of the event are expected to discuss the latest results of scientific research in the area of synthesis and creation of new materials, promising advances in ultrasound applications. Achievements in creating alloys with plastic recovery effects, surface machining, synthesis of polymeric materials and crystal structures, methods to control the structure and friction qualities of materials will be presented. The forum’s agenda also includes discussions about prospects of development and priority avenues of materials science.
Representatives of over 20 schools of thought of leading universities and research centers from various countries gathered for the forum. During the symposium along with internationally recognized scientists students, master’s degree candidates, and post-graduate students will present their works. It will help reveal talented youth. An out session to be held at premises of the state college in Polotsk is part of the program. The organizers believe that the session will help attract the attention of students and professors of local education institutions, representatives of enterprises of the town and of Novopolotsk, who are interested in assimilating innovations into their business processes.
The symposium has been organized by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the interstate coordinating council for physics of strength and plasticity of materials, the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Vitebsk Oblast administration, the Vitebsk State Technical University, the Acoustic Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
