MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – A program to guide the development of Belarus' microelectronics industry has been worked out in Belarus, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov on 24 January.
Vladimir Gusakov said: “We started by working out a concept for the development of the microelectronics industry in the country. We used the concept to develop a program. Even faster than Russia, which has yet to develop one. The program consists of two parts: a scientific one and a manufacturing one. The second part involves a number of enterprises run by the Industry Ministry and other organizations. The program has been passed by the Council of Ministers. Within the framework of the program we've set up a microelectronics cluster, which includes a number of relevant enterprises and academic organizations. We periodically arrange sessions to sum up results and determine future development avenues.”
Microelectronics R&D products are also demonstrated at the expo Intellectual Belarus. “They are absolutely as good as the world's best products. Literally ahead of the expo the radio materials research institute signed a contract on selling sensors and microchips worth $1 million. An entire group of lasers had been sold before that. There are multiple examples like that. It means we are capable of earning money for the sake of science,” the official noted.
