Pediatric surgery center to open in Belarus in 2015
22.12.2014
The National Research Center for Pediatric Surgery will open in Belarus in 2015. The decision was formalized by Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 1211 passed on 20 December 2014, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.
The center will incorporate the pediatric heart surgery division of the Cardiology National Research Center and the children’s surgery center of Minsk City Teaching Hospital No. 1.
Every year the Cardiology National Research Center provides medical services to over 7,000 children, including more than 1,200 children with congenital malformations. The children’s surgery center provides diagnostics and surgical treatment to over 8,000 pediatric patients. However, a great number of children need a general and a cardiac surgery simultaneously. The experience of pediatric surgery centers worldwide suggests that the cure rate is the highest in the centers providing all kinds of surgical services.
“Thus, the establishment of the National Research Center for Pediatric Surgery on 1 January 2015 will give a new impetus to the development of this field of medicine and will facilitate the development, testing and introduction into practice of new methods of combined surgical treatment, which will eventually increase the availability and improve the quality of highly specialized medical services for children,” the press service of the government noted.
