MOSCOW, 1 July (BelTA) – A quantum fiber optic communication line can be built to connect Belarus and Russia. President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aleksandr Sergeyev put forward the initiative at the plenary session of the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “The development of quantum technologies is a symbol of our time. Studies focusing on quantum sensors, quantum computing, and quantum communications are in progress in Belarus and Russia. A quantum communication line based on optic fiber is the most advanced product of quantum technologies at present.”

Aleksandr Sergeyev said: “Together with our colleagues from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus we suggest adding the creation of a quantum fiber optic communication system between Moscow and Minsk to the bilateral R&D cooperation agenda. The communication system could employ not only R&D products of Russian scientists but accomplishments of Belarusian colleagues in the area of quantum sensors.”

“A quantum communication line between Moscow and Minsk will substantially expand our capability to absolutely securely exchange data in various fields,” the official concluded.
