OMZ Special Steels to supply rotor forgings to Power Machines for Belarusian nuclear station

The Russian company OMZ Special Steels, which is part of OMZ Group, has signed a contract with OAO Power Machines for the delivery of forgings that will be used to make equipment for the first and second power-generating units of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, representatives of OMZ Company told BelTA.

The forgings are scheduled for delivery in Q3 2013. As part of the contract OMZ Special Steels will make forgings for two generator rotors. The forgings weigh 105 tonnes each. In addition to the large forgings the company will provide a set of other blanks, explained the source. At present OMZ Special Steels is making a set of low-pressure rotors weighing 680 tonnes on the order of OAO Power Machines for the Belarusian nuclear station. The equipment will be delivered in H2 2013.

The public joint-stock company OMZ is a leading mechanical engineering company specializing in engineering, manufacturing, selling, and servicing equipment for nuclear power engineering, petrochemical and oil and gas industries, mining industry. The company also offers special steels and industrial services. The OMZ manufacturing sites are located in Russia and Czechia.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant will have two power-generating units with the total capacity of up to 2,400MW (1,200MW each). It will be built at the Ostrovets site in Grodno Oblast. The design AES-2006 has been chosen for Belarus’ first nuclear power plant. The design is fully compliant with international norms and IAEA recommendations. The deadlines for building the nuclear power plant are specified by the general contract. The document provides for commissioning the first power-generating unit in November 2018, with the second one scheduled for launch in July 2020.
