MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) makes a significant contribution to the strengthening of the country's energy independence, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media before the meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko on 16 October, BelTA has learned.
“Rosatom State Corporation is our strategic partner. The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is at its final stage. It has been built according to the most modern and high safety requirements,” Viktor Karankevich said. “The BelNPP has already been bringing benefits to the country's economy, and making a significant contribution to strengthening the energy independence of Belarus.”
According to him, the first power unit is undergoing its second preventive maintenance, while the second power unit is operating at its rated capacity. All the necessary documents are currently processed for the further commissioning of the second power unit of BelNPP and the plant itself.
“Our cooperation with Rosatom will not end after the commissioning of the BelNPP. Cooperation will continue on the issues of NPP operation and technical support, scientific support, radioactive waste management. We are discussing all these issues and will actively cooperate with the state corporation in the future,” the minister said.
