Expert: Belarus’ developments in nuclear industry, radio control competitive worldwide

Belarusian developments in nuclear industry and medicine, nuclear measurements and radio control are competitive on the world’s stage, Director of the Research and Production Company Atomtech (Minsk) Doctor of Science Valery Kozhemyakin told BelTA. Atomtech has brought its stand to ATOMEXPO 2013 which is running as part of the namesake international industrial forum in Saint Petersburg.

According to Valery Kozhemyakin, Atomtech has brought its traditional products as well as its latest developments. “Among the novelties are the devices that have been specially developed and partially tested for radioactive decontamination of the territory surrounding Japan’s nuclear power plant Fukushima-1. There is no need to collect samples. All necessary measurements are made by an operator who draws up a map of radioactive pollution. It is of great importance for Japan,” he stressed.

“Besides, we have developed a device for sample-free monitoring of the agricultural produce in the fields. This device has been tested as well. The results are good,” Valery Kozhemyakin noted.

Atomtech Director also presented the third novelty developed on the order of the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency. This is a deep-sea spectrometer which measures pollution level in seawater and other water areas. “This device allows measuring pollution of bottom materials in order to provide fishermen with information on the most appropriate fishing places. The device will be installed on an unmanned boat, operated by Japanese specialists from land,” Valery Kozhemyakin said.

In his words, Atomtech equipment and devices, including dosimeters, fixed radiometers, spectrometers, radiation control systems, spectral portal monitors, gamma-radiation monitoring instruments, mobile radiation control laboratories and many more are sold into more than 70 countries.

The Research and Production Company Atomtech under the Minsk Research Instrument Making Institute was founded in the early 1995 as a subsidiary of the structural subdivision of the Minsk Research Instrument Making Institute. The company designs and produces devices and equipment for nuclear measurements and radiation control.

The major areas of application of the company’s devices and equipment include nuclear industry, radioecology, emergencies, civil defense, customs and border control, special-purpose equipment, nuclear medicine, radiology, control of X-ray equipment, geophysics, metrology, research, radiation control, etc.
