Strategy on handling radioactive waste in Belarus in development
According to Gosatomnadzor, an interagency working group will be established in order to take into account opinions of all the interested government agencies in the course of creating the document. Gosatomnadzor will also organize public hearings of the draft strategy.

Handling of spent fuel of Belarusian nuclear power plant explained
According to Viktor Karankevich, 25% of the fuel rod arrays will be extracted from the reactor assembly and put inside a cooling pond. The pond is in the reactor building. The spent nuclear fuel will stay as fuel rod arrays for about 8-10 years. It will cool down and will lose its radioactivity.

Funding allocated to reinforce radioactive waste storage facilities in Belarus
The money will be transferred to the Minsk city budget for the sake of carrying out design work with regard to the technological reinforcement of radioactive waste storage facilities of Ekores, the enterprise in charge of handling such waste.

In his words, disconnection from BRELL should proceed according to plan in order not to disrupt the stability of the energy system. The process should also be completed in accordance with existing agreements with the Russian Federation and Belarus in the sphere of energy industry.

Belarus-Russia agreement on transporting nuclear materials ratified by parliament's lower chamber
The development and signing of the agreement are stipulated by provision No.4 of the Union State program on nuclear energy development. The program was adopted by ordinance No.6 of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 4 November 2021.

Belarus, Rosatom to work out roadmap on radioactive waste management
Mikhail Mikhadyuk said: “Thanks to interaction with Russian partners we already have a preliminary concept for handling radioactive waste in Belarus. Now we have to evaluate the available technologies, reconcile approaches, and prepare a roadmap of the joint work we will have to do.”
